Bernegg Castle (Ruin) (Hinwil)

Bernegg Castle, whose construction is presumed to be around the 13th century, was first documented in 1229, when the Lords of Bernegg were first mentioned. This noble family served the St. Gallen Monastery and the Counts of Rapperswil and maintained close ties with the Lords of Landenberg. However, the economic basis of the small dominion proved insufficient, and from the last third of the 13th century, more and more properties had to be sold. As early as 1277, part of the property passed to the Bubikon Commandery of the Knights Hospitaller.
