Blankenstein Castle (Ruin)
The Blankenstein Ruin, a former spur castle, is located on a rock spur above the Brunnental, a side valley of the Große Lauter. It is near the Wasserstetten district of the municipality of Gomadingen in the Reutlingen district of Baden-Württemberg.
History+
The construction of Blankenstein Castle was undertaken in the 12th century by the Lords of Blankenstein. As early as 1182, a document mentions Bertold von Blankenstein. The castle was owned by various noble families, including the Edelfreie von Dapfen and the Counts of Württemberg. By approximately 1442, the complex had already fallen into disrepair. In 1977, stabilization measures were carried out on the remaining part of the keep.

Of the original castle complex, in addition to the secured remnant of the keep, which has a base area of about 7 by 7 meters, minor traces of a rampart and the neck ditch are still visible.
