The Bloßenstaufen ruin, also known as Alten-Stauffen or Alter Turm, is the remnant of a hilltop castle. It is located on a hill near Altenberg in Bavaria.

History+

The origins of Bloßenstaufen Castle date back to the 12th century when it was built by the Lords of Bloßenstaufen as their ancestral seat. These local nobles are documented since 1171. In 1387, the castle lords sold their property to the Dukes of Bavaria. Interim pledge holders, such as Hans von Westernach, carried out renovations in 1420. The Bavarian Dukes established an administrative office (Pflegamt) in 1449. The castle suffered damage when it was burned down by Margrave Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg in 1462 and destroyed by imperial troops in the Bavarian War of Succession in 1504.
