The Bocksberg ruin, a former hilltop castle, is on an elevation above the district of Bocksberg in Bavaria. Striking earthworks and the remains of the keep are now present.

History+

The origins of Bocksberg Castle date back to the early 13th century, when it served as the seat of the Lords of Bocksberg. This family is documented between 1231 and 1322 and likely died out in the 14th century. Subsequently, the Marschalken von Bocksberg took over the fortress as vassals of the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg. In 1378, the castle suffered damage during a conflict, after which the Augsburg patrician family Rehm acquired the lordship in 1379. Further destruction occurred in 1462 during the Second Cities' War, when Andreas Rieter von Kornburg married into the family.
