Bommersheim Castle (Ruin)

The origins of Bommersheim Castle date back to the 11th or 12th century, when the Lords of Bommersheim erected a motte-and-bailey castle. In the 13th century, this structure was replaced by a stone lowland castle with a curtain wall, likely due to a change in ownership, as it subsequently served as a ganerbenburg (a castle shared by several families). Towards the end of the 14th century, the castle became a focal point in conflicts between the imperial city of Frankfurt and the surrounding nobility.
