Borghausen Castle (Ruin)

In the mid-15th century, Heidenreich von Plettenberg united the estates of Bamenohl and Borghausen. Around 1540, Bernhard Vogt von Elspe established his residence at Borghausen Manor, which he acquired through an inheritance division. In 1632, the castle was stormed and destroyed by Hessian-Swedish troops under Colonel von Linteloe. Borghausen remained in the possession of the Vögte von Elspe until the 18th century. Through testamentary disposition and marriage, the ruin eventually passed to the von Plettenberg family, who still own it today. In 1987, the castle ruin was added to the list of historical monuments of the city of Attendorn.
