The Brandis ruin, a former hilltop castle, stands on a rock spur above the village of Lützelflüh in the Swiss Emmental.

History+

The origins of Brandis Castle date back to the 13th century. From around 1230, it served as the ancestral seat of the Barons of Brandis, who administered their lands in the upper and central Emmental from here. In 1337, the Lords of Brandis acquired Bernese citizenship. The family eventually sold the dominion in 1455 to the Lords of Scharnachthal.
