Burgwallbach Castle (Ruin)

First documented in 1335, the knights Heinrich and Margold Marschalk von Ostheim were the first known owners of Burg Wallbach. They were vassals of the Counts of Henneberg, who in turn were subject to the Prince-Bishops of Würzburg. In 1357, the castle was besieged and destroyed by Prince-Bishop Albrecht II von Hohenlohe because the Marschalks had harbored his enemies. In the same year, a security agreement was concluded, allowing the Marschalks to rebuild the castle. At the end of the 15th century, specifically in 1489, Bernhard Marschalk von Wallpach sold the castle to his brother-in-law Anton von Bibra. In 1525, the castle suffered damage during the Palatine Peasants' War.
