The Cagliatscha ruin is a castle ruin on a rocky outcrop above the valley between Andeer and Clugin in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Its well-preserved roof structure is considered the oldest original roof construction in Switzerland.

History+

The construction of Cagliatscha Castle is dated to the year 1266, as evidenced by dendrochronological analyses of a roof beam. It is presumed that local ministerials of the Barons of Vaz, possibly the Panigad family, were the builders. However, historical documents regarding the castle's origin and history are not preserved. The destruction of the complex may have occurred in the context of the Schamserfehde, as stone debris is still found below the ruin today. Around 1570, Ulrich Campell mentioned the castle as "Castellatsch," indicating its already ruined state. In 1984/85, the ruin was secured by the Graubünden Castle Association, and a bridge was built over the neck ditch.
