Campell Castle (Ruin) (Sils im Domleschg)

The origins of Campell Castle date back to the 13th century, when a fortified residential tower with four floors was built. In the 13th or early 14th century, the complex underwent an expansion, with the entire plateau being built over and a curtain wall with a gate, a moat with a drawbridge, and an outer bailey being added. In the 15th century, the tower was raised by two floors and a tower-like building was erected in the outer bailey. A transformation took place in the 16th century when the castle was converted into a palace, with a three-story palas replacing the outer bailey. In the early 17th century, the complex was destroyed by fire, presumably in the context of the Bündner Wirren. The palas was rebuilt in 1635, with the eastern wing left as a ruin and used as a stable.
