Chameregg Castle (Ruin)

The origins of the Chameregg hilltop castle date back a long way. In 1322, the Chamerauer family was documented as the castle lords. In the 15th century, the Pollinger family took over the complex. Subsequent changes in ownership marked the beginning of the structural decay. Although the exact time of its destruction is unknown, there is evidence of a fire catastrophe. However, a connection to the Hussite Wars is not confirmed. Since 1900, the ruin has been owned by the Bayerischer Wald-Verein, which carried out extensive excavations and preservation work in 1965/66 and from 1987 to 1989.
