Château Aigremont (Ruin) (Ormont-Dessous)
The Château de Aigremont was built between 1332 and 1338 by Aymon of Pontverre. Before the construction of this castle, the Pontverre family lived in la Chapelle (Aigle) and St-Triphon. The Pontverre family owned a large part of the lordship of Ormonts. The castle stood on a rocky spur near the small village of Voëttes (Unter-Ormonts) at an altitude of 1340 meters. Today, only a rough fragment of a wall, which belonged to the old watchtower in the southwest, can be seen of the castle. From the side of the entrance, the remains of the moat are still visible.
Aymon of Pontverre was very powerful and enjoyed the trust of Count Amédée VI of Savoy. In 1425, Aigremont passed to the Counts of Gruyères.
After the conquest of the land by the Bernese, Aigremont Castle was destroyed by the population of Ormonts to avenge a long period of harsh servitude.
