The History of the Castle+
The castle was first mentioned in 1153. Originally, the village of Saxon was located around the castle. The castle was expanded into a fortress under Peter II of Savoy.
Architectural Development+
In the 14th century, the castle was significantly expanded. A new residential wing was added, and the defensive walls were reinforced. During the Renaissance, the castle was transformed into a more comfortable residence, with large windows and decorative elements. Despite these changes, the medieval character of the castle was largely preserved.
The Castle in Modern Times
In the 19th century, the castle underwent extensive restoration work. Today, it is a museum and a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can explore the historic rooms, admire the art collection, and learn about the fascinating history of the castle. Regular events and exhibitions are also held.
