Dellingen Castle (Ruin)
The Dellingen ruin is a castle ruin near the Waldhausen district of the city of Bräunlingen in the Schwarzwald-Baar district in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was presumably built between the 11th and 12th centuries. It is thus considered one of the oldest castle complexes in the Baar region. Recent finds at the castle site support this assumption. The building was the seat of the local lower nobility of Waldhausen. In 1483, the Counts of Lupfen are mentioned as feudal lords. Around 1512, the property was in the hands of a Georg Stähelin von Stockburg. In 1559, it was sold to the Lordship of Fürstenberg. It is unclear whether the castle was later abandoned, i.e., left to its gradual decay, or destroyed during the Peasants' War.
Description+
Of the former castle complex, the ruin of the residential tower has been preserved. Its approximately 1.8-meter-thick wall remnants rise to a height of 4 to 5 meters. These form a roughly 10 x 10 meter wall square with an interior area of 42 square meters. A special feature is the ground-level tower entrance in the north wall. On the south side, the masonry is broken by a loophole approximately in the middle. In addition to other minor wall remnants, the former moat with the outer rampart is recognizable in its almost original condition.
