Donaustauf Castle (Ruin)
Between 914 AD and 930 AD, Bishop Tuto of Regensburg had a castle built to defend against Hungarian invasions. Between 1132 and 1161, it was conquered and partially destroyed four times. The market town of Donaustauf developed in the Middle Ages as a civilian settlement under the protection of the mighty fortifications of the castle. During the Thirty Years' War, in January 1634, the Donaustauf fortress was conquered, blown up, and burned by the Swedes. After being hastily repaired, it fell into disrepair from the end of the 17th century. Since 1986, it has belonged to the market community of Donaustauf.
