Dübelstein Castle (Ruin) (Dübendorf)

The history of Dübelstein Castle begins with the first mention of the Lords of Dübendorf around 1130. In the 13th century, they were entrusted with the supervision of the locality of Dübendorf. In 1257, a family member first called himself Konrad von Dübelstein, then known as Tuobelnstein. The castle featured a keep with walls up to three meters thick. After the family died out around 1314, the castle passed to the Lords of Hofstetten until 1402, followed by further changes in ownership. During the Old Zurich War in 1444, Dübelstein was surrendered without a fight to the advancing Schwyz troops and devastated, but rebuilt shortly thereafter. In 1487, Zurich Mayor Hans Waldmann acquired the castle, which was plundered and destroyed again in 1489 after his execution.
