The Ebeleben Ruin, originally a medieval fortress, was transformed into a Baroque palace and served as a residence for a Schwarzburg secondary line, before being largely destroyed in World War II.

History+

The origins of the complex date back to the Middle Ages, when a castle belonging to the Counts of Schwarzburg stood on a hill northwest of the present-day town of Ebeleben. From 1651, Count Ludwig Günther I initiated the conversion of the castle into a Baroque palace. This new structure featured an S-shaped floor plan with two open courtyards. In the 18th century, the interior design with stucco work was carried out. The main building of the palace was destroyed down to its foundations during a bombing raid in 1945.
