On a mountain spur in the Bavarian region of Oberallgäu lies the Ettensberg Ruin, a historic fortification.

History+

The origins of Ettensberg Castle likely date back to the late 11th century, when it served as the seat of a ministerialis of the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg. A Benz Oetisperg is documented in 1377. Around 1409, the small dominion passed to the Counts of Montfort, who appointed bailiffs for its administration, including Konrad von Laubenberg and Swigger von Rauns. From 1446 to 1466, the castle served as the dower seat for Countess Beatrix von Montfort.
