Falkenstein Castle (Ruin) (Igis)

Written records concerning Falkenstein Castle are scarce. It was first mentioned in a document on December 11, 1338, as “Valkenstein.” In the “Buoch der vestinen” from 1410, it is referred to as “Falkenstain.” Between 1365 and 1389, a Ulrich von Falkenstein is mentioned, though his noble status is uncertain. In 1508, the terms “Falckenstainßwyß” and “Falckenstain acker” appear in a Churwalden land register. Bishop Johann VI. Flugi von Aspermont's catalog from 1645 lists the castle as “Falckenstein” and “Fackelenstein,” the latter being a later name change.
