Friedberg Castle (Ruin) (Meilen)

Friedberg Castle was probably built around the year 1200. In the 13th century, the right bank of Lake Zurich was under the rule of the Regensbergers, who in 1306 referred to Friedberg as their property. The Regensbergers later sold the castle to the Zurich knight Götz Mülner, who from 1321 called himself “Mülner von Friedberg.” Under his patronage, the complex was expanded in the early 14th century, as numerous finds attest. The Mülner family later gave up their seat in Meilen and sold the vogtei rights. Around 1390, the Zurich citizen Jakob Bletscher acquired the castle. It is assumed that the complex was already in decay at that time. Since 1593, the castle grounds have been in private ownership.
