History+
Although the locality of Grillenberg was mentioned as early as the 9th century, the castle likely originated around 1217, when a vassal named Tidericus de Grellenberch was mentioned in connection with the Archdiocese of Magdeburg. The oldest surviving wall sections, made of large ashlar blocks, date from this Romanesque foundation period. In 1286, castellans from the Muser and von Morungen families are documented. In the mid-14th century, in 1347, Margrave Frederick the Serious of Meissen reacquired the dominion.
