The Großbernsau Ruin, also known as Neu-Bernsau, is situated on an island in the Agger floodplains in the northern part of the city of Overath. Surrounded by a small moat, it was a motte that was inhabited until the 18th century.

History+

The origins of Großbernsau Castle date back to the 14th century, when it was built as a motte. It was one of eight knightly seats in Overath. The Bernsau family died out in 1532 with the death of Wilhelm von Bernsau.
