The Hatzfeld Ruin, a former castle complex, stands at approximately 430 meters above sea level in the town of Hatzfeld.

History+

The von Hatzfeld family, whose name was first documented around 1138, played a role in local history. Like other noble families in the area, they were often involved in conflicts between Hesse and Mainz, mostly siding with Mainz. The castle, whose ruins are visible today, was first mentioned in a document in 1282. From 1340 onwards, a town developed at its base.
