Heilsberg Castle (Ruin)

The construction of Heilsberg Castle took place in the mid-12th century by the Truchsesses of Heilsberg and Eggmühl. Its first documented mention dates back to 1213. In 1333, Konrad von Nothaft acquired the complex as a fief of the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg. Until the 16th century, the castle frequently changed owners, including dukes such as Louis the Bearded of Ingolstadt, Duke Albrecht, and Duke Louis of Landshut, before it became associated with the Wiesent estate. In the 16th century, Heilsberg was abandoned and fell into disrepair. As early as 1644, Abbot Stephan of Frauenzell described the complex as an old, collapsed castle built of ashlar stones.
