Hochhaus Castle (Ruin)

Around 1200, Hochhaus Castle was probably built as the ancestral seat of a collateral line of the noble family of Hürnheim, who subsequently named themselves after the castle. Rudolf I of Hochhaus is first mentioned in a document in 1236. In 1347, Konrad II sold the complex for 3000 pounds to the Counts of Oettingen-Oettingen, possibly because the last lord of Hochhaus died without heirs in 1353. The counts used the castle as an administrative seat and modernized its defensive structures in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1719, the old castle complex was converted into a palace, with the fortifications and the old palas largely preserved. This palace burned down in 1749 and was not rebuilt.
