Hollende Castle (Ruin) (Warzenbach)

Hollende Castle was built before the first mention of the Giso count palatines and was located on imperial property. The Gisons, who served as bailiffs of the Wetter Canonesses' Abbey, received the castle as an imperial fief and used it as their ancestral seat. In 1008, Count Giso I was mentioned in the Lahngau. In the summer of 1073, Giso II met his death at Hollende. He was involved in a plot against Duke Otto of Northeim, which led to Otto's followers conquering the castle and killing Giso and his co-conspirator. In 1118, Giso IV transferred Hollende Castle, which had previously been imperial property, to Archbishop Adalbert I of Mainz and received it back as a fief. After Giso's death in 1122, the castle fell to Electoral Mainz.
