The Hüttelngesäß ruin, once a moated castle, lies in the Hessian Spessart, between Niedersteinbach and Geiselbach. It now stands as a dilapidated structure in the Main-Kinzig district.

History+

The Hüttelngesäß moated castle was first documented in 1131. In 1403, Archbishop Johann II of Nassau secured the right of access to the castle. Together with Mömbris Castle and Hauenstein Castle, Hüttelngesäß served to secure the area around the upper Kahl and Lohr, which was then under the influence of the Rieneck family. In February 1405, the castle was destroyed by fire during the Wetterau Robber War.
