The Iburg ruin, also known as Rihburg or Riburg, is a spur castle ruin in the Albtal valley, near Görwihl-Tiefenstein in Baden-Württemberg.

History+

The construction of the hilltop castle is presumed to have occurred between the 10th and 11th centuries. The name Iburg might be derived from yew (Eibe) or the term refuge castle (Fliehburg). It is believed that the castle served as the seat of the noble family von Steinbach, whose members such as Johann von Steinbach (1341, 1350, 1492) and Turingus (1380) are documented. The Lords of Urberg are also considered as possible builders. Following the destruction of Tiefenstein Castle in 1272 and the associated loss of power of the Tiefenstein lineage, the Iburg was likely abandoned.
