Innerjuvalt Castle (Ruin) (Rothenbrunnen)

Innerjuvalt was built around 1250 by the Lords of Juvalt. The complex is divided into a lower and an upper castle. Initially, a two-story palas with a southern annex was built on the upper castle, followed by the construction of a three-story main tower with a high entrance. An outer ring wall enclosed a cistern and a bakery. In the late 15th century, the tower was raised by one story and equipped with a battlements walk. In 1342, a dispute between the brothers Albrecht and Bertram von Juvalt was settled, with Bertram ceding the castle to Albrecht. The castle was sold in 1462 by Elisabeth von Juvalt to her son-in-law Junker Pedrutt von Wannis. Around 1500, Innerjuvalt was probably abandoned and by 1550 it was already mentioned as a ruin. In recent times, the complex has been excavated and restored.
