On the Burbachfelsen near Hinter-Lehengericht, a district of Schiltach, is the Klingenburg ruin, also known as Schlössle or Mühlburg. This hilltop castle in the Rottweil district, Baden-Württemberg, once served as part of a defensive line to secure the Schiltach valley.
History+
The construction of Klingenburg is dated to the year 1240, when the Dukes of Teck had it built as an observation tower. In 1591, the complex was mentioned in documents under the names “Alt Burgstadel” and “Clingenburg.”
On site+
Today, only a corner of a wall and the stump of a keep with ashlar blocks remain of the castle complex. The ruin is accessible to visitors.
