Kransberg Castle (Ruin)
Kranzberg Castle, also known as Kransberg, is a ruined castle on the Kranzberg hill near the municipality of Sulzbach-Laufen in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in Baden-Württemberg.
A western loop of the Kocher river winds around the Kranzberg in the valley, further east it is separated from the Limpurger Berge mountain range by a natural saddle 40 meters deeper.
The hilltop castle was built by the Counts of Öttingen in the first half of the 13th century and first mentioned in 1212. In the middle of the 15th century, the castle was destroyed in the Cities' War.
The former castle complex with its inner courtyard and outer bailey still shows remains of walls in late Romanesque architectural forms. The keep, presumably a residential tower, had a base area of approximately 13.5 by 13.5 meters and a wall thickness of 1.5 meters.
