Kürnberg Castle (Ruin)

In 1346, Dietrich der Kürner received the Stamsried area as a fief from Count Palatine Ruprecht II. With his permission, he built Kürnberg Castle on the Haidberg and subsequently called himself Kürner von Kürnberg. After the Kürnberg family died out in 1406, the castle passed to the Lords of Freundenberg in 1425 and subsequently changed hands multiple times. During the Thirty Years' War, the complex was besieged and destroyed by Swedish troops in 1634, after which it fell into disrepair. Extensive renovations of the ruin were carried out in the late 1970s.
