La Tour de Treme Castle (Ruin)
The Tower of Trême, located between Bulle and Gruyère, stands on a rocky spur at the edge of the road. In the lower photo, the tower can be seen to the left of the church.
This square tower, built in the 13th century, was part of the fortifications intended to defend the small village founded by the Counts of Gruyère. The first known mention dates back to 1271.
The tower is the sole remnant of the fortifications. It stood on the border between the lands of the Bishop of Lausanne and those of the Counts of Gruyère. It was conquered by the Bernese in 1349.
