The Landeck Ruin, a former spur castle, is located near Schenklengsfeld in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district.

History+

Landeck Castle was constructed in 1234 by the Hersfeld Abbey as an administrative castle. By 1317, a Hersfeld official was documented at Landeck. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the Landeck office was frequently pledged, most recently to Mainz, before being repurchased by the abbey in 1454. During the Peasants' War in 1525, unrest broke out, prompting Landgrave Philipp of Hesse to assist the abbot.
