The Lichteneck Ruin, a former High Middle Ages castle complex, is on a hilltop in the Bavarian district of Cham.

History+

The origins of Lichteneck Castle date back to the early 13th century, with its first documented mention in 1301 as 'castrum in Liehtenek'. It was likely the seat of a Heinrich von Lichtenegg, before the Lords of Lichtenegg were named as owners in the second third of the 14th century. From 1341 to 1537, the Sattelbogener family shaped the castle's destiny. Between 1420 and 1430, it was probably damaged by Hussites.
