Near Dornhan in the Rottweil district, Baden-Württemberg, is the Ruine Lichtenfels, a hilltop castle at approximately 518 meters above sea level.

History+

The origins of Lichtenfels Castle date back to the 12th century, with the Counts of Hohenberg presumed to be its founders. The noble family of Lichtenfels, closely related to the Lords of Dettingen and sharing a common coat of arms, inhabited the complex. In 1298, the castle suffered its first destruction during the Battle of Leinstetten. Parts of the castle came into the possession of the Counts of Zollern in 1423.
