The Liebenstein ruin is on a granite cone in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth. This hilltop castle offers insight into Bavaria's medieval history.

History+

The first documented mention of Liebenstein Castle dates back to 1125. The Liebenstein family, who had the castle built, died out in 1292. Subsequently, the complex was sold to Waldsassen Monastery. After 1634, having previously served as the seat of the judicial office, the castle was no longer inhabited and gradually fell into disrepair.
