The Linden Ruin, once a moated castle, is located in a village of the same name near Patersdorf in the municipality of Geiersthal in the Regen district. Although only a tower remnant and hints of ditches remain today, it was shaped by important noble families and a brewing tradition.

History+

The original moated castle of Linden was built by the Counts of Bogen. It later passed into the possession of the Wittelsbach family. In 1470, Duke Albrecht IV exchanged the castle with Konrad von Nußberg for his share in Neunußberg Castle. Subsequently, the property came into the hands of the Lords of Degenberg. They utilized their ducal monopoly for brewing wheat beer and established here in 1553 the first and for a long time only wheat beer brewery in the Bavarian Forest.
