Lobenstein Castle (Ruin)

The origins of Lobenstein Castle possibly date back to the early 12th century, when ministeriales of the Diepoldinger counts, who named themselves after the ancestral seat of Lobeneck, were mentioned. In the 14th century, the castle came into the possession of the Counts of Peilstein. After a presumed destruction, Eberhard Hofer von Hof acquired the castle site in 1339 and received imperial permission for reconstruction in 1340. The Hofers made Lobenstein their main residence and henceforth called themselves Hofer von Lobenstein. During the Hussite Wars in 1428, the castle was destroyed again but rebuilt.
