Lupburg Castle (Ruin)
Lupburg Castle is a castle ruin on a hill in the municipality of Lupburg in the Bavarian district of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate.
The hilltop castle was probably built in the 12th century by the noble Ludewicus, whose liege lord was the Imperial Prince Burgrave of Regensburg, and was first mentioned in 1129. In 1299, the castle came into the possession of the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg and in 1505 into the possession of Palatinate-Neuburg. From 1803, the castle was privately owned and fell into disrepair. In the 20th century, the complex was extensively renovated.

- until approx. 1200: Construction of the castle with the "upper castle" on the rock, west of this the "lower castle"
- 1300: Konrad von Lupburg, brother of the bishop, bequeathed Lupburg to the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg
- 1313: Extinction of the Lupburg family with Bishop Konrad V von Lupburg
- until 1381: Pledges of the castle, among others, to the Lords of Laaber, then to the Frauenberger brothers
- 1387: Acquired by Duke Friedrich of Bavaria-Landshut
- 1392: Transferred to Duke Johann of Bavaria-Munich

The horseshoe-shaped castle complex with an almost completely preserved curtain wall (12th century) made of limestone ashlar in the lower part and rubble stone in the upper part had an upper and lower castle and still shows considerable remains of the buildings surrounding the castle courtyard from the 16th and 17th centuries. In the south of the complex stands a well-preserved residential building, in the west the palas preserved in the lower floor, and in the north a large barn and a preserved gatehouse of the lower castle. In the upper dilapidated area of the former core castle, the stump of a keep made of limestone ashlar is preserved on a rock.
