Moregg Castle (Ruin) (Obersaxen)

Written records about the origin and early history of Moregg Castle have not survived. It is presumed that the castle was built in an area already inhabited by Rhaeto-Romanic settlers before German-speaking immigrants established themselves there. The name Moregg might be derived from a personal name, as no knightly families with this name are associated with the region. In 1468, the "guot Moreck" appeared in an inheritance dispute, indicating that the castle and its associated estate belonged to the Rhäzünsers. When the local Walser people received lower jurisdiction in the mid-14th century, the Rhäzünser ministerials lost their function, and Moregg Castle was abandoned.
