The remains of the Castle can be visited

In the Neidenstein district of Hollfeld in Franconian Switzerland is the Neidenstein Ruin. Today, only remnants of its walls remain, but the remains of the palas hint at its former grandeur.

History+

The complex was presumably built in the last quarter of the 15th century by the Lords of Aufseß. It was first mentioned in a document in 1488 by Christoph von Aufseß. In 1510, Wilhelm von Aufseß enfeoffed the castle to Bishop Georg of the Diocese of Bamberg. This decision led to internal family disputes, in the course of which the castle and the associated village of Gerbersdorf were renamed Neidenstein.
