Neurandsberg Castle (Ruin)

Neurandsberg Castle was built around 1330 by Friedrich Ramsperger, not far from his family's original ancestral castle in Altrandsberg. The Ramsperger family, who appeared as ministeriales of the Counts of Bogen and the Prince-Bishopric of Passau from the mid-12th century, lost the castle after 1436. In that year, Haimeran Heuraus conquered the complex on behalf of Duke Albrecht III, presumably due to conflicts between the Ramspergers and the law. The castle changed hands several times, including to the Barons of Notthafft around 1550. Later, it served as a Bavarian administrative seat (Pflegamt) and as a prison. Its fate was sealed during the Thirty Years' War when Swedish troops under Dragoon Colonel Georg Christoph von Taupadel destroyed the castle in 1633. No reconstruction followed.
