The remains of the Castle can be visited

Northeast of Stadtsteinach in the Upper Franconian district of Kulmbach lies the Nordeck Ruin, a former spur castle. Of the complex, the round keep, the prison tower, and parts of the foundation walls remain today.

History+

The origins of Nordeck Castle date back to around 1100, when it was built by the Counts of Henneberg. In 1151, the castle, along with the town of Steinach, came into the possession of Bishop Eberhard II of Bamberg. A decisive event was the castle's destruction in 1438 during a minor war waged by the Waldenfelser against the Bishop of Bamberg.
