On a mountain cone near Schörzingen in the Zollernalbkreis lies the Oberhohenberg ruin. As the second-highest mountain in the Swabian Jura and the highest point in the Zollernalbkreis, its history dates back to the High Middle Ages.

The origins of Oberhohenberg Castle lie in the early High Middle Ages. Archaeological findings confirm settlement on the mountain as early as the Alamannic period. Between 1050 and 1100, the Counts of Hohenberg constructed the castle complex, which later gave its name to the County of Hohenberg. The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1179. After its acquisition by Austria, the feudal lords changed frequently.
