The ruins of Obertagstein Castle, a high castle, are on a rock outcrop southwest of Thusis in the Swiss canton of Graubünden, situated at approximately 1141 meters above sea level.

History+

The exact construction date of Obertagstein Castle is not documented, but architectural features suggest it was built in the late 13th century. It was first mentioned in a document in 1322 as “Taxstein,” a name possibly referring to the presence of badgers (Latin: taxus) in the area.
