Near Hohenstein-Oberstetten in Baden-Württemberg is the Ödenburg ruin, a former hilltop castle whose origins date back to the late 11th century.

History+

The construction of the Ödenburg took place between 1050 and 1100 by the Lords of Oberstetten. The castle was mentioned in documents by the end of the 11th century. After its destruction between 1200 and 1250, the complex was abandoned and fell into disrepair. From 1460 onwards, the name “Ödenburg” became common, as the castle was already “öde,” meaning deserted, at that time. In 1978, parts of the complex were demolished to make way for a water reservoir.
