Ödenburg Castle (Ruin)
The Ödenburg is the ruin of a hilltop castle on a high mountain peak near the district of Oberstetten in the municipality of Hohenstein in the Reutlingen district in Baden-Württemberg.
The castle was built between 1050 and 1100 by the Lords of Obersteten, and mentioned at the end of the 11th century. Between 1200 and 1250, the castle was abandoned after its destruction and fell into disrepair. From 1460, the castle was called Ödenburg because it was abandoned, i.e., "öde" (desolate). In 1978, parts of the complex were demolished and a water reservoir was built.
Of the former castle complex, which featured a moat, a rampart, a palas, a curtain wall, and an enceinte wall, remnants of the curtain wall and the moat are still preserved.
