The remains of the Castle can be visited

In the municipality of Beuron in the district of Sigmaringen, Baden-Württemberg, the Pfannenstiel ruin, a High Medieval remnant of a spur castle whose original aristocratic affiliation is unknown, stands at an altitude of approximately 798 meters above the Bära Valley.

History+

Archaeological finds and the masonry technique suggest that the castle was built in the second half of the 13th century. By the year 1400, it was already uninhabited and passed into the possession of the Lords of Urbach. Through the marriage of Margarethe von Urbach, the castle came as a dowry to Georg I von Werenwag. In 1476, he sold the Pfannenstiel castle site to Beuron Abbey and Hans Spretter von Mühlheim.
