The Praßberg ruin, a hilltop castle whose origins date back to the 12th century, is situated above the Argen Valley near Wangen im Allgäu.

History+

Praßberg Castle was built in 1123 by the Abbey of St. Gallen under the name “Brahsberc”. By 1167, the Lords of Praßberg, who served as ministeriales of the abbey, were mentioned as owners. Hartmann von Praßberg initially served Emperor Henry VII in 1313 and later the Italian city of Pisa. The Praßberg family inhabited the castle until 1397 before it passed to the Lords of Schellenberg. Heinrich von Schellenberg sold the complex and its associated property in 1411 to the Vogt Heinrich von Summerau zu Leupolz.
