Raschenberg Castle (Ruin)

The Höhenburg was built in the 12th century by the Counts of Plain. From 1219 it passed into the possession of the Dukes of Bavaria, only to fall to the Archbishopric of Salzburg in 1275. Until the 16th century, Raschenberg Castle was an independent court and administrative seat. In 1575 it was abandoned under the archiepiscopal administrator David von Nussdorf. However, the tower served as a powder magazine once more in 1613.

At the end of the 18th century, it was sold to the noble Achthal Iron Company, which used it as a quarry and later finally had it demolished. Wall remains of the castle were preserved until around 1880.

Today, only the well and some excavated wall remains of the former castle are preserved. The ruin is freely accessible.
